Is your Business Card Truly Inclusive?

Is your business card truly designed for the people you meet—across cultures, abilities, and backgrounds?

When I attend conferences, I pay close attention to the small details that signal inclusion and cultural confidence. Recently, one business card really stood out to me. One side used a large, easy-to-read font; the other included braille. It was a simple, powerful example of designing with the end user in mind.

I’ve also seen business cards adapted for cross-cultural contexts—English on one side and Japanese on the other, for example. In environments with frequent language barriers, including a headshot can make it easier to connect names and faces. And adding pronouns is another meaningful way to communicate respect and clarity from the very first interaction.

We often talk about Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), yet we rarely see all of that reflected in something as basic—and visible—as a business card. In today’s increasingly connected world, most of us are conducting business across cultures whether we realize it or not. That’s why I see these thoughtful features as best practices, not “nice-to-haves.”

At Seva Global, our business cards include a QR code so recipients can quickly access our website, connect on LinkedIn, and learn more about the services we provide. I’ve also seen NFC (near-field communication) chips embedded into cards so people can simply tap their smartphone to receive contact details and links instantly.

I’m always looking to learn from real-world examples.
